Musical Director

Emmanuel Lawler  BA, MA, LTCL, FTCL

Emmanuel Lawler became our Musical Director in 2022 when he was appointed Terenure College Director of Choirs. His musical life began as a boy chorister in The Palestrina Choir and choral music has been a central part of his life ever since. He learned the skills of the choral conductor from some of Ireland’s and the UK’s finest choral maestri.

As an international tenor soloist, he has performed to standing ovations and critical acclaim on many of the world’s greatest stages such as Carnegie Hall and The Royal Albert Hall and collaborated with eminent colleagues and many of the world’s greatest orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra.

Having trained in Italy under the great Carlo Bergonzi, Emmanuel combined an interest in vocal teaching with his ever-hectic international career, and in 2001, shortly after his return to live in Ireland, he was invited to join the staff of The Vocal Department of the College of Music, now the TU Dublin Conservatoire. As well as Irish students, students have come to him from countries including China, Russia, North and South America, the UK and Europe (including Italy), and have gone on to follow in his footsteps singing on the finest international stages. So he brings a wealth of vocal as well as choral expertise to his work in Terenure College and with the Community Choir.
